Olea europaea

The Olive tree, Olea europaea, is one of the most significant plants in cultivation, native to areas in the Mediterranean, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Despite its importance in global cuisines, they are also cultivated for their ornamental value. Silver-green, oblong leaves densely populate the top of their often rugged and twisted trunks. White, feathery flowers emerge during the growing season if getting plenty of light, warmth and humidity, followed by the iconic fruit. These are a sure-fire way to instantly add a touch of the Mediterranean landscapes to any space.

Watering

Although these plants are drought tolerant, water regularly and thoroughly during the spring and summer months (April to September) when soil is dry.

Light requirements

Full sun, in a slightly sheltered spot. Ideally south-facing.

Feed

Use a seaweed based fertiliser fortnightly during the active growing season of spring/summer.

Repotting

Plant in free-draining compost. If planting into a container make sure to use a planter that’s a couple sizes larger than its original pot to give it room to grow.

Pot size / height

See available sizes below. Please note that, due to their natural variability, specimens' height may be within 10-20% of the stated height below.

Plant supplied in plastic nursery pot.
